 The Elgin Valley is a unique location in which the vineyards hold the secret to the award winning wines. The biosphere in which the maritime mountain basin is located is the richest and most diversified on earth. Elgin is located 350m above sea level and a stone’s throw distance from it, making it the coolest climate wine region in South Africa. Because of the unique, cool elevation and maritime environs the grapes ripen on the vines for longer. Longer than local in-land and many of the world’s most famous wine regions. Elgin Vintners has a deep connection and understanding of the vineyards and terroir. The flavours they love in their wines are in the grapes from the moment they harvest. Meticulous care is taken to ensure the vineyards are capable of producing well balanced grapes packed with flavour. The role of the winemaker is to capture this flavour in every glass and Marinda Kruger Claassen the new winemaker excels in this regard, winning awards all over the world. The Elgin Vintners wines are great for our Mauritian tropical climate, fruit driven and beautifully crafted.
